Political Crisis
So i haven't talked about all the political turmoil that has been going on in Egypt, so lets remedy that. To the casual observer this whole situation should fall under the category of "They are like totally on the other side of the planet, and I care why?". Well, let me tell you my uneducated prank monkey minion, this whole restructuring of the Egyptian government signifies a change in the operation of a country that up until now has always been one of our allies in an area of the world where we don't have many friends. Not to mention the fact that Egypt has control over the Suez canal, which means our oil and cargo ships can pass through the canal as opposed to swerving around the entire continent of Africa, which means our gas prices are likely to shoot up again.
As of right now the military has taken control of the country until an election is held and then that elected regime will take over. Or will they? I'm really not some kind of conspiracy nut but I firmly believe that "absolute power corrupts absolutely". What incentive is there for the general who commands the Egyptian army to step down? He controls the fucking army, what are the citizens gonna do? Get into street fights with them? Actually, given the history of other countries going through similar changes to the core infrastructure of their government, (Iran, Ireland, Scotland, Palestine, Israel, the fucking Civil War) the fight is more than likely going to spill over into the streets.
Now the main point of interest for all of us pork eating crusaders is that the new president of Egypt, when elected, is Muslim. While i have no problem with any ideological beliefs at their core, I firmly have a problem with government officials in any capacity making bedfellows with religious beliefs. The power a religion has over a mass of people is a very effective way to coerce and sway vast majorities into groupthink. Faith is the root of any religion, so using that faith as a tool to make people blindly follow is a simple of matter using their religion to control them. Pretty scary stuff if you consider what others who claim to follow the teachings of the Koran have proven to be capable of. But this kind of religious extremism isn't reserved for only those who believe in Allah, just take a cursory glance throughout history and you'll also find plenty of examples of terrible acts of violence committed by Christians (in one form or the other) as well. It's never the beliefs that are the problem, it's the interpretation.
How this will all play out is just here-say for the time being, but it is definitely worth keeping track of.

GREATEST. VIDEO. EVUR...
This has to be the one of the funniest videos that I have ever seen on the internet. It appears this Marine has pulled 72 hr watch duty and is consequently losing his mind. Never underestimate the combined powers of sheer boredom and sleep depravation.

This looks awesome!!!
Let me start off with a retraction from a previous post, apparently there is some imagination left in the collective heads of knuckle that make up the movie industry in Hollywood. If one was so inclined to sift through the tired wickedness of re-makes and re-boots, one might be well rewarded with gem of a movie so precious, so coveted, so HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN? WTF?
So i personally haven't seen a Rutger Hauer film in a very long time, but I can comfortably say that this film is the last thing that i expected. Filmed in the "Grindhouse" style that harkens viewers back to a simpler time of the midnight matinee; nights filled with warm beer, soggy popcorn, and MIND BLOWINGLY SHITTY/AWESOME?OMFGWTFBBQ MOVIES!!!???11!!1? That's right kiddies, the plot of this sum-bitch is the title. So simple in it's premise, so honest in it's intentions, so brutally violent that it makes Die Hard look like a 2hr "Tickle Me Elmo" party.
For the especially dense, allow me to break this down in equation form...
HOBO+SHOTGUN=AWSOME VIOLENCE
And just look at that tagline, that reads like something I would have made up when I was in high school.
Now I'm not saying that this movie is going to be for everyone, (seriously, if you try to bring any form of a female companion to this movie, well, I don't know what to tell you, you're an asshole i guess.)
But for people like me, that obviously come from houses of learned doctors, and brilliant philosophers, sometimes you just need some raw entertainment that allows your overcooked noodle to settle for a bit.
So in summation, I like turtles.
The epitome of badassedness
Bill "Willie" Apiata of New Zealand SAS was in Afghanistan when his team was attacked in the middle of the night by rocket grenades and machine gun fire. Mr. Apiata was not hit in the initial barrage but this was not the same for his teammate, who had blood all over his uniform. With out hesitation, he made the decision to carry his buddy 70 meters to safety. In the words of one eyewitness, "… a shitload of stuff coming towards them - rocket propelled grenades, machinegun fire, small arms fire. There were explosions everywhere, and they were caught in the middle – how they got through we will never know.” After getting to safety, he rejoined the fight which lasted another 20 minutes. For this action, Bill Apiata received the Victoria Cross. Most politicians would make this into a long drawn out story of personal bravery but the following is how a true soldier explains the situation. "I just saw my mate was injured and I needed to get him to safety and I put him up on my shoulder and carried him to safety and rejoined my mates and ... yeah, that's what happened." - Corporal Bill Henry "Willie" Apiata.
