Meanwhile in AHMURRICA!...
This is a UCLA student. UCLA. Widely considered one of the most prestigious universities in the United States. This is who attends UCLA. I am amazed. And, I think I may be a little in love.
P.S. If you don't lose your shit at 1:45 , I will eat my fucking hat.
Devastation in Japan
I know that this has been covered immensely on every single news outlet in the world, but it's worth taking notice of. In case you spent your weekend in a reality depravation chamber, you undoubtedly have heard of the 8.9 earthquake that took place and caused a tsunami to sweep over northern Japan. Northern Japan is thankfully the most rural area of the small island nation, but that doesn't mean by any definition that this staggering tragedy is any less devastating. The death toll is rising by the second and as rescue efforts continue, there are still people alive waiting to be rescued. This is a terrible event and I encourage anyone who can to do anything in their power to help the ongoing relief efforts to do so. American Red Cross has set up a donation program via text message service. Japan is a beautiful country with a beautiful history. Now with the threat of multiple nuclear reactors possibly going critical (not so much a Chernobyl, but more like 3 Mile Island) there is still much to be dealt with.

Political Crisis
So i haven't talked about all the political turmoil that has been going on in Egypt, so lets remedy that. To the casual observer this whole situation should fall under the category of "They are like totally on the other side of the planet, and I care why?". Well, let me tell you my uneducated prank monkey minion, this whole restructuring of the Egyptian government signifies a change in the operation of a country that up until now has always been one of our allies in an area of the world where we don't have many friends. Not to mention the fact that Egypt has control over the Suez canal, which means our oil and cargo ships can pass through the canal as opposed to swerving around the entire continent of Africa, which means our gas prices are likely to shoot up again.
As of right now the military has taken control of the country until an election is held and then that elected regime will take over. Or will they? I'm really not some kind of conspiracy nut but I firmly believe that "absolute power corrupts absolutely". What incentive is there for the general who commands the Egyptian army to step down? He controls the fucking army, what are the citizens gonna do? Get into street fights with them? Actually, given the history of other countries going through similar changes to the core infrastructure of their government, (Iran, Ireland, Scotland, Palestine, Israel, the fucking Civil War) the fight is more than likely going to spill over into the streets.
Now the main point of interest for all of us pork eating crusaders is that the new president of Egypt, when elected, is Muslim. While i have no problem with any ideological beliefs at their core, I firmly have a problem with government officials in any capacity making bedfellows with religious beliefs. The power a religion has over a mass of people is a very effective way to coerce and sway vast majorities into groupthink. Faith is the root of any religion, so using that faith as a tool to make people blindly follow is a simple of matter using their religion to control them. Pretty scary stuff if you consider what others who claim to follow the teachings of the Koran have proven to be capable of. But this kind of religious extremism isn't reserved for only those who believe in Allah, just take a cursory glance throughout history and you'll also find plenty of examples of terrible acts of violence committed by Christians (in one form or the other) as well. It's never the beliefs that are the problem, it's the interpretation.
How this will all play out is just here-say for the time being, but it is definitely worth keeping track of.

GREATEST. VIDEO. EVUR...
This has to be the one of the funniest videos that I have ever seen on the internet. It appears this Marine has pulled 72 hr watch duty and is consequently losing his mind. Never underestimate the combined powers of sheer boredom and sleep depravation.

This looks awesome!!!
Let me start off with a retraction from a previous post, apparently there is some imagination left in the collective heads of knuckle that make up the movie industry in Hollywood. If one was so inclined to sift through the tired wickedness of re-makes and re-boots, one might be well rewarded with gem of a movie so precious, so coveted, so HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN? WTF?
So i personally haven't seen a Rutger Hauer film in a very long time, but I can comfortably say that this film is the last thing that i expected. Filmed in the "Grindhouse" style that harkens viewers back to a simpler time of the midnight matinee; nights filled with warm beer, soggy popcorn, and MIND BLOWINGLY SHITTY/AWESOME?OMFGWTFBBQ MOVIES!!!???11!!1? That's right kiddies, the plot of this sum-bitch is the title. So simple in it's premise, so honest in it's intentions, so brutally violent that it makes Die Hard look like a 2hr "Tickle Me Elmo" party.
For the especially dense, allow me to break this down in equation form...
HOBO+SHOTGUN=AWSOME VIOLENCE
And just look at that tagline, that reads like something I would have made up when I was in high school.
Now I'm not saying that this movie is going to be for everyone, (seriously, if you try to bring any form of a female companion to this movie, well, I don't know what to tell you, you're an asshole i guess.)
But for people like me, that obviously come from houses of learned doctors, and brilliant philosophers, sometimes you just need some raw entertainment that allows your overcooked noodle to settle for a bit.
So in summation, I like turtles.
The epitome of badassedness
Bill "Willie" Apiata of New Zealand SAS was in Afghanistan when his team was attacked in the middle of the night by rocket grenades and machine gun fire. Mr. Apiata was not hit in the initial barrage but this was not the same for his teammate, who had blood all over his uniform. With out hesitation, he made the decision to carry his buddy 70 meters to safety. In the words of one eyewitness, "… a shitload of stuff coming towards them - rocket propelled grenades, machinegun fire, small arms fire. There were explosions everywhere, and they were caught in the middle – how they got through we will never know.” After getting to safety, he rejoined the fight which lasted another 20 minutes. For this action, Bill Apiata received the Victoria Cross. Most politicians would make this into a long drawn out story of personal bravery but the following is how a true soldier explains the situation. "I just saw my mate was injured and I needed to get him to safety and I put him up on my shoulder and carried him to safety and rejoined my mates and ... yeah, that's what happened." - Corporal Bill Henry "Willie" Apiata.

Passing of a true hero
Dick Winters, the man whose heroics in the Army's 101st Airborne Division during World War II were chronicled in the HBO series Band of Brothers, has died. He was 92.
Up until the fall of 2001, Winters was a little-known retired major living in rural Pennsylvania. That's when the HBO series aired, and 10 million people watched the first night.
The series, based on a book by historian Stephen Ambrose, tells the story of Winters and the soldiers he led — the men of E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, or Easy Company.
"I'd go through hell with him, no question about it. We all had the same feeling about him, too, I'll tell you," said Clancy Lyall, who served as a private in Easy Company under Winters. "Everything we had to do, he was there right with us. He wouldn't run, you know."
Winters led from the front. Some of his soldiers were amazed he survived the war.
On D-Day, Winters led an attack on a German gun battery, destroying the weapons firing at the American troops on Normandy's Utah Beach. He and his company liberated a Nazi concentration camp and later captured Hitler's mountaintop retreat. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the second-highest award for valor.
But Winters always played down his heroism. In the HBO series, he recalled a question that a fellow veteran was asked by his grandson. Here's how Winters told it: " 'Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?' Grandpa said, 'No, but I served in a company of heroes.' "
It was Winters' favorite line. Just a few years ago, Winters wrote a memoir, assisted by retired Army Col. Cole Kingseed.
Kingseed recalls what Winters told him after the manuscript was completed: " 'Wars don't make men and women great. But it sometimes takes wars to bring out the greatness in men and women.' "
Winters wasn't sure he would live through the war. He told writer Stephen Ambrose that he knelt down and prayed after D-Day. That comment inspired a scene in Band of Brothers.
Portraying Winters, actor Damian Lewis says, "If somehow I manage to get home again, I promised God and myself that I would find a quiet piece of land someplace and spend the rest of my life in peace."
Winters found that quiet piece of land. He bought a farm outside Hershey, Pa., where he spent the rest of his life.

HAhahaHA!
Internet memes have become a never ending source of entertainment to me and the Nic Cage ones are especially hilarious because that man is, in fact, completely insane. I strongly encourage going to Kevin and Bean's podcast and listen to his interview with them. No it isn't Ralph doing an impression of the actor, it is actually him and honestly, that guy is whacked out of his gourd. He talks about his latest dump of a movie where he plays some sort of sorcerer (*magic wand sound!) blah blah blah. That discussion helps him segue into the topic of his fascination with castles from his earlier childhood all the way to present day. Oh Nicolas Cage, don't ever change, you ginormous forheaded freak machine!
4 days to go!

Its sad
It's sad to think that this man's (?) entire existence on this planet came to its zenith this very moment. Mom's basement is going to be so cold and meaningless after this.
And the winner is...
If you thought your life was full of fail and despair, take comfort in the fact that you are not this colossal pile of excrement.
